03 · Answer Engine Optimization

Be the business AI recommends when buyers ask who to hire.

When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity who to hire, one name comes back — not ten links. We do the content, structured data, and citation work that makes it yours.

Then we track your share of the answer daily, so you can watch it move instead of taking our word for it.

A business can rank fine on Google and still never come up when AI gets asked. They are not the same job.

What changed

Google ranked websites. AI returns one answer.

For twenty years your buyer typed a question into Google and got a list. They scrolled, compared, and picked. Ranking anywhere on page one gave you a shot at the click.

That is not how it works anymore. Your buyer asks, and the model answers — with a recommendation, not a list. The old game was ranking. The new game is being the answer, and a business can do the first well and still lose the second entirely.

Then
Google
the search engine
  • A page of ten blue links
  • The buyer scrolled and compared
  • Page-one ranking gave you a shot
  • The work had a name: SEO
Now
ChatGPT
the answer engine
  • One answer, one recommendation
  • No scrolling, no comparing, no page two
  • You are named or you are invisible
  • The work has a name: AEO
The precedent

You already know how this goes. It happened once before.

Twenty years ago Google arrived and every business had the problem you have now: how do I get found on this thing? The ones who learned early how Google decided who ranked took the traffic, the calls, and the revenue. An entire industry grew up around answering that question.

This is that moment again. The tool changed from a search engine to an answer engine, but the job is the same — understand how it decides who gets named, and get there before your competitors do. We have run that play for clients since 2015. The engine is new; the discipline is not.

The work

Three things make AI trust you. We do all three.

Models recommend businesses they understand and see vouched for in more than one place. Everything below is in service of those two things.

01

Answer the real questions

Every month we publish content built around what your buyers actually ask — the problems in the words they use, not the keywords a tool suggested. The more clearly your business is explained somewhere a model can read it, the more reasons it has to name you over a competitor.

02

Make your site machine-readable

Your website makes sense to a person. To a model, much of it is inference. We add structured data — the invisible labels stating exactly what you do, where you work, and who you serve — so there is nothing left to guess at or skip.

03

Get cited off your own site

A model trusts a name it encounters in more than one place. We build the mentions and citations on the publications and directories the models actually check for the questions that matter to you.

What to expect

This works like a garden, not a light switch.

Getting recommended by AI builds over months, not days. That is not the pitch most agencies give you. It is also the reason the result holds once you have it — nothing here expires the day you stop paying for an ad.

Day one

You see where you stand

We set up your dashboard and pull a baseline: where you surface today, where competitors surface, and which buyer questions you are missing entirely. A real person walks you through it.

Month one

The groundwork goes in

We start publishing, labeling the site, and building citations. You will not top the answers in thirty days — nobody does — but the foundation models read from is going in, and the dashboard shows it.

Months 2–3

AI starts naming you

Your name begins surfacing in answers it never appeared in. Not every question yet, but the trend turns, and you can watch it move rather than trust that it is happening.

Month 4+

It compounds

Every piece of content, every citation, every label keeps working. You become one of the names the models reach for, and you stay there.

The dashboard

You watch it move. You don’t take our word for it.

Most agencies report on AI visibility with a slide. You get a live dashboard from day one — which questions your buyers ask, who gets named in the answers, how often it’s you, and which sources the models cite when they decide.

FAQ

Questions we get a lot.

Is AEO just SEO with a new name?

No. SEO earns a ranking on a results page. AEO earns your business a mention inside the answer itself. The two reinforce each other and share some of the same work, but the target and the measurement are different — and a business can rank well and still never be named.

Which AI engines do you optimize for?

The ones your buyers actually use: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude. We track all of them rather than optimizing for one and hoping the rest follow.

How do you measure it?

Share of the answer — how often you are named and cited against competitors across the questions that matter in your market. It is tracked daily and you get a dashboard, not a monthly PDF asking you to take our word for it.

How long before we see movement?

Early shifts usually show within the first couple of months. Durable share of the answer compounds over the months after that. Anyone promising you week-one results in AI search is selling something else.

Do we need to pause our SEO?

No, and you shouldn't. Strong SEO makes AEO easier, and the content and authority work feeds both. Most clients run them together.

What if AI search changes again?

It will. The specific engines will shift and new ones will appear. What does not shift is that models recommend businesses they understand and see vouched for widely — which is what the work actually builds.
